The Sony NEX-5n uses the same sensor that is used in the Nikon D7000, Pentax K5 and the current crop of Sony midrange DSLRs. DPReview's opinion of this camera is that it's image quality is equal to a midrange DSLR.
Regarding lenses, the NEX lens range is still very small and there is only one high end lens in it (Zeiss 24mm f1.8), however the other lenses aren't a "problem", they are simply consumer lenses with average quality, much like the kit lenses you get with low to midrange DSLRs. Here is what DPReview said about the 18-55mm kit lens: The E 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 puts in a pretty decent showing as APS-C kit lenses go, and easily holds its own against those typically bundled with SLRs.
So I think it would be safe to say that you would get pretty much the same image quality from an NEX-5n as you would from a low to midrange DSLR + kit lens from Nikon, Canon, Pentax etc.
There is also a number of lens adapters available and many people are using legacy glass and getting fantastic results.

What does "Popular photos" mean?

It can mean either or both. If you want to see the most downloaded images (i.e. those sold most often) you can select Options (beside the search box) and then select Most Downloaded. This can be used at the same time as the Within option.
Cheers the chillys.

its going to be interesting how these mirrorless cameras do. Several manufacturers are using "larger sensors" similar to some dslr's. Sony, Samsung, Leica and the fuji X-pro 1 are in this catagory. Other manufacturers, Nikon, Pentax, panasonic have adopted smaller sensors and for that reason images from the latter should probably not be accepted.
However good photos don't automatically arise out of the size of the sensor, the glass in front plays a big part as well. The review in dpreview for the sony is interesting as it appears it is a good body, but the glass is problematic. I think I will be keeping my dollars for upgrading glass for my dslr rather than rushing out and getting a mirrorless body

Thanks for all the input on the need for speed and the need for rest - we actually agree totally with both. Suggest that we close off this topic stream now, and bear these comments in mind next summer.
This year is going to be another great one for mychillybin with further new features that are being worked on to be released soon to make the user experience even better for customers, and others to help photographers.
In the mean time can you help with comments on the post about mirrorless cameras?
cheers for now the chillys

Sounds like January is a good month for those who do submit to other countries to do some catch-up submitting to those places. Maybe a little of both is needed - one or two new photos processed every day or two through January just make the site look alive for those who happen to wander in for a purchase and to encourage would-be and current submitters... then back to regular MCB action once the industry returns back to its normal routine for the year... In saying that I have noticed the odd upload here and there, so maybe just a couple more and we'll all be sweet. PS. I do HOPE MCB people are getting a nice bit of downtime to recharge.
Dear Kiwiangel, the world is getting faster by the day, businesses need to be even more alert than say 2 years ago,the old saying {i know there will be millions}you snooze you lose, night, tired now.

Hi William,
couldn't have said it better... I currently don't feel like uploading images at all - only because there's NOTHING happening on the site. And as you said 'More in = more out', which is valid for both sides, the Chillies and us, the photographers...
Hope everything will be back to normal soon.
Cheers, Thomas
(busy uploading to other sites, which also process images...) Excellent out of the norm shot Thomas, you have a good eye for this game.
