You probably received a copy of the 88 images of NZ mothers sent to mychillybin customers this week. (If not you can tick the subscribe box on your Profile to receive these).

For your background interest, the purpose of this newsletter is not to try and sell mothers' day images. Rather it is one of an infrequent stream of enewsletters which are designed primarily to remind (without annoying) existing customers about mychillybin, in a way that involves some degree of emotional kiwi connection.

Reminders of this nature are sent because many designers are occasional (rather than frequent) users of images; only purchasing when they have a piece of design work needing New Zealand images. The newsletters regularly keep the company's name before them so they think of mychillybin top-of-mind when image needs arise.

On other matters -

Hope you found the list of in demand (and short supply) images helpful

7 interesting and varied entries already during the first few days for the Making ... photo competition in May. We have heard about a few additional interesting ones that are somewhere in the process between idea, concept, execution or shooting, and submission. If you submit one image, and then read the rules which state all (up to 3) images need to be submitted together, and want to submit more, this can be done by subsequent email, up to 3 entered images in total. Good luck.

warm regards
the chillys

It is now reinstated below.

If the image is openly taken in a public place then 'Editorial Only Use' will be fine - whether the person is well know or not, or pleased about it or not. Much like seen regularly in newspapers - lots of images of people who have not given specific approval.

Different matter however of course for Commercial use of such images (Standard and Enhanced licence) i.e. in advertisements, brochures etc. If the person is identifiable then a model release is required.

Trust this clarification helps.

the Chillys
edited by mychillybin team on 9/05/2012

Just an idea
- I don't think that you should do that, as there are too many images in the library which are 2nd league only when it comes to quality (even some of mine... ;.) )

Maybe if you'd do a quality ranking - as other agencies do - like "Editors Choice", 'Recommendation' or whatever and then let the slide show pick randomly from the category which contains the best images only that would work, but I think the slide show should only include top-notch imagery and not average stock photos.

Just some thoughts...

Cheers,
Thomas

An existing mychillybin designer member has requested suggestions of an image for a DLE (99 x 210mm) card. The image must:

* suit use as a landscape (orientation) triptych (formed from just 1 image)

* involve either New Zealand summer mountains, beach, native bird, or pohutukawa.

This is a hard to search for, given that each of the 3 equal sized (portrait orientation) panels needs to stand alone visually as an image, as well as being a part of the actual overall landscape (orientation) image.

The client would split the image into the 3 sections when laying it up for print; the images just needs to be suitable for that treatment.

A print width of 210mm, at 300 dpi needs around 2500 pixels of width, so an extra large image is not needed, just one that works visually when cropped to this proportion (1:2.1), and split into 3.

Let us know promptly if you have any suggestions in your portfolio, or to upload (in which case mark them Urgent for processing.

Seems that triptych and diptych could also be valid keywords to apply in future to images that have these 'separate' as well as 'overall' composition characteristics.

Warm regards
the chillys

The discussion on image collections last week included a suggestion from Fatsprat that mychillybin provide some information on images for which there is high demand and low stock.

mychillybin undertook to provide this week some initial detail on this, along with more extensive detail thereafter.

The initial brief analysis has produced the following list of 10 frequently searched terms for which there is (in relative terms) a low stock library holding. These are superb subjects for additional images for the library.

rugby
Maori
caravan
tui
bach
bbq
camping
school
family
community

Some judgement about these terms is clearly needed, as to what type of images are sought. One way to get some feel for this is to search the term on the home page, after setting the options to Most Downloads sequence, which will show the image that have sold previously which include this term as a keyword.

More extensive detail on this will be available within a few weeks, once some special reports have been run, terms matched, and analysis carried out.

cheers for now
the chillys

I found one of my recent sales in AA Directions magazine, Autumn issue page 42. At a glance, it looked vaguely familiar. They'd flipped the image and cropped out some of the sky. It printed a tad dark, but since they'd plonked large white writing on the road part, maybe that was intentional. Image is attached (I hope).
