It's always great to see the photo sales for each month and which pictures have been bought and at what size. However, I am always curious to know who is buying them and for what sort of publication. This is information is available on other stock sites and I'm wondering why it can't be on mychillybin?

Thanks for this suggestion. If you can put up here some links to what you regard as best practice for this (or send examples by email to [email protected]) - we will see what information we can put in place to help.

cheers for now

I'd love to see where my images go to too, but not all sites give this information. For example, iStock doesn't tell you. It's just lucky if you find out some other way. We did talk about creating a 'Woo Yay" forum for anyone to post if they'd seen a chilly bin image. Can't remember if that happened or not.

When I sell images through Getty I see on my invoice detailing my payments who has bought what: what magazine or newspaper, or which publisher; or it could be educational and will list the company name or individual. Sometimes it will tell me what it's for: a calendar or book, web illustration etc.

So my suggestion would be that when we look at our photo sales history on mychillybin it will detail which company has bought the image and for what purpose, e.g. cover, ad, illustration, calendar, web etc. It helps we photographers to see who is buying and what or why they are buying. It may help us to target different types of shots. And it's just good to know.

Thanks for all these comments and ideas.

Rights Managed
Some of the information being discussed here is necessarily collected by stock libraries for negotiated Rights Managed image sales. We are now designing systems to enable the offering of rights managed image sales, and will incorporate these ideas, with this information flowing back to the photographers.

Whilst the information will flow back to the photographer involved for their image sales, it is not proposed to offer this information on site as well - for 2 reasons. First, the customer is often working confidentially on work for clients, and hence does not want their use of an image to be disclosed publicly. Secondly, it is not in mychillybin's or photographers' overall best interest to list customer names in a public forum as this provides a target customer list for other libraries to prospect.

We do however appreciated hearing from photographers by email when they see a mychillybin image in use, and always check these to ensure there is a corresponding image purchase and download for that party (or their designers) - as part of watching out for any image use abuse.

Royalty Free
With the existing sales of Royalty Free images, customers are not required to provide this sort of detail when purchasing use of an image. The customer simply has to identify themselves, agree to use the image within the terms of the licence, and make their payment. If anyone receives this type of detail from other libraries for royalty free image sales we would be interested to know.

Much appreciated.
