Why is it when i have submitted some previous images and get rejected because of too much in the darks area and i see on the "creative just in page" a certain image that is 97% in the darks area but called "Arty".And since when have we been doing "arty" when you want bright clean N.Z. images?

Canon S I thanks for the question, and for seeking to defend the mychillybin brand. Note the brand position is summarised by fresh NZ images, rather than bright NZ images.

Many if not most photographers will identify with your experience of having had images not accepted because they are viewed as too dark for optimal screen based selling, or as being not aligned with the mychillybin brand position.

Occasionally, and it is only occasionally, a dark image of this nature is accepted. To achieve acceptance the image needs to convey exceptionally well a subject and mood relevant to parts of NZ culture and also to be of a very good technical quality without detracting noise/grain. When processing this image it seemed to achieve these standards, so it was accepted. It is the sort of image about which there could be many opinions however, so will be interesting to see if others comment too.

The 'Arty' category has been in place for a couple years, and is used for images of works of art, artistic processes in action e.g. painters painting, and also for images with an especially pronounced artistic interpretation or treatment of a subject.

cheers for now
