 Hello $$FIRSTNAME$$,

mychillybin photographers' news
  july winner

If images do not show below; please use this web version

july 2013 winning image - Leading Lines (indoors or outdoors) - as a compositional tool.
Very popular subject, with over 30 images entered and 26 accepted for the library.  See them all at this link, or by searching for 'll comp' with editorial selected.

In selecting a winning image preference has been given to images with lines that lead very well towards the subject or other point of focal interest in the image.  Many images had great lines, but not many took the eye on a 'smooth' journey to a point of focal interest.

Auckland commuter train disappears in fog, by Graham Prentice has been selected as winning image. A powerful image due to its strong leading lines taking the eye directly to the subject which is positionted on the vertical thirds composition line.  The diagonal aspects also give it energy, appropriate to this subject. This image demonstrates that at times less can be more in terms of colour, with the red lights contributing highly to the overall success of the image.   Well done Graham - $200 and our congratuations on its way to you next week.

A few comments on entries from some of the recently accepted photographers who entered; will limit ourselves to 2 or 3, as otherwise we will end up discussing them all!

  • Victoria Park Markets, by Jeff Hewson, has sold already on site so has a customer's support.  The chillys particularly like the bottom half of this as a stand alone image.  (And speaking of potential crops, also like the right hand 2/3's of Ray Salisbury's Nelson image.)
  • A winding but "Remarkable" mountain road, by Sara Smith, with its almost iconic bendy gravel road has the makings of a superb image - perhaps use of differential focus and maybe a vehicle appearing around the distant corner (how long would the wait be?) would have won this image top spot.

Thanks to all other unmentioned entrants too - lots of good stock images here so hope your images sell soon.  This newsletter will be posted in the forums, in case you would like to discuss or commend any other images as well.

August Competition - Backyard
Backyard images sell well with their often kiwi distinctivness, and are not oversupplied - so a great subject.  Another week to go!  See the competitoin icon image, and enter here.  You got to be in, to win.

Sales
Sales are strong in August, so hope you have got part of the action.  The hot downloads page is always worthy of study - showing what customers are purchasing.

cheers for now
