april 2013 winners - backlit

The backlit subject allowed for a great variety of images, making judging extra difficult. The superb diagonally composed tern from Rob Lynch received a lot of consideration, but in the end it was decided that there was not enought of a backlit glow around the feathers and the focus a little too soft to claim the winners prize. Various silhouette sunsets entered were great images too, with the silhouette family from Michi having the ability to lift the human spirit. The speeding boat by Graham Prentice with backlit spray was also a contender for honours but when examined at full size the focus seemed a little close to deliver maximum engagement with the action.
In the final analysis Stu Hastie's somewhat unusual window washing boy has been selected this month as the mychillybin backlit winner. In addition to the nicely lit swirls of foam, our eye moved to the shadow, and then to the peeps of the boy beyond, creating several levels of interest to the image. $150 has been put into the banking system for you today Stu. Well done.
