February 2013 winners - Motion Blur
Another 16 great images entered - in part due no doubt to the superb extended summer this year.  See them all at this link, or search with Editorial ticked, for 'blur-competition'.

Great motion variety, and again lots of really great stock images.  The 3 images shown below have been chosen to receive $75 each, and to share the winning glory.

   mychillybin track,running
This image from Graham Prentice looks deceptively simple, but seldom do we see nice thirds composition, with the butterfly flying 'into the space', well lit, sharp, and combined with subtle but interesting and relvant context. Nice image for copy as well. Stu Hasties walking the tracks image captures our attention with its great visual flow towards a distant focal point. The varied blur of the different legs seems to bring with them a sense of reality that oozes from the image, and makes us feel part of the action.  Being in New Zealand we see quite a number of good waterfall images, but this from William Connell has a fresh approach.  The spacious foreground is excellent for copy, and this space along with the razor sharp right hand tree gives a grand sense of distance and scale to the falls.

And this month we have also chosen to again highlight a winning submission of 3 images.  Well done Stu Hastie - all your three images capture attention, and use blur really well to give a sense of movement and invovlement. The girl running is one of those rare images that have nothing sharp but nevertheless have elegance, and effectiveness. The greater blur of the legs giving a sense of speed powering the eye left into the image.  Another $75 for you for your set of three.

March 2013 winners - Elderly
Harder subject it seems, but still some good entries left to choose betweeen after moderation, and a subject that has high demand versus existing image stock in the library.  Here are three Elderly images, well worthy of receiving $75 each.

Don't you love the dignity of this woman showing through her dress, posture and expression.  Well done Graham Prentice (and pls excuse us for flipping your image here). Perhaps not visible in this small image, but the leg bandage attests to the authenticity of the image and the determination of this person.  Great image Ray Salisbury. Another expertly crafted image by Alistair Lang. Great composition and use of the arm to direct attention towards a distant final focal point.

April and May Competitions
Subject for April is Backlit, and for May is Teenage (people, music, culture, mess or whatever).
In April and May either 1 or 2 images can be entered per person - with the entry system now allowing these to be entered both together, or at different times during the month as they are ready.  Be great to see some new entrants too - you have to be in to win.

Really appreciate all the great images that keep coming in - it is the quality of these images that help to keep keep our sales volumes growing strongly year by year - and 10% more strongly this last financial year than ever before.

cheers for now
