According to one professional we were at a shoot with, the Canons spend more time in the repair shop.....

That will possibly depend on how well you look after your gear.

Dont be swayed by such shallow and probally biased comments.

My Canon 300D purchased four years ago has taken over 12,000 images so far and the only maintenance to date has been a clean at the end of each day.

But then I'm very carefull with it, espeically when changing lenses.

Some of my friends run Nikon gear with similar results, they are also very carefull with their investment.

Purchase what best suits your needs and budget, not what other people (including professionals) think you should have.

No particular brand or amount of equipment will make you a better photographer.

The stunning images you desire will come from determination, perserverance, an eye for detail and your imagination.

Great, thanks for the low down.
I've heard good things about the 300D, and the Nikon D40X, I guess you can't go wrong with either model.

I have allways had Nikon, Bascially in this day and age most of the quality name brands are good i reakon.

Just remeber its the person behide the camera and lens tht makes the photo, the camera just captures that point in time. Some of the greatest shots have been caught on a old down and out camera.

I have to say, the best photos i have ever taken are with my beat up old Nikkon. Just cant seem to capture the same depth with my newer one. And i have never had to put either cameras in for repair, so if you care for your gear, you should be fine.

Well in the end the Nikon D40X was the pick of the day. Great model and fun to use for a beginner like me.

D40 is good-D40X not so good-d40x will only accept DX lenses-all other nikons will accept most older lenses that were made for film SLRs-regards, ken

My Canon 20D has taken over 60000 images in 3 years without a hitch and is still going strong. I intend replacing the shutter and getting the sensor cleaned and look forward to another 60000 images

When looking at TV footage of sports events that show the photographers pit there are many more white Canon lenses evident than black Nikons. That should tell you something.

Personally I'm a Canon girl. I started with a T70 25 years ago and continued because I'm happy with the results but also because now I have interchangeability of lenses, speedlites etc within the EOS system so don't have to start with a brand new kit. I've never used Nikon but have seen some excellent images taken with them.

Yes, that white shows up better than black on your TV.

The Nikon/Canon debate has been around for so long it's tiring. Both make camera's that are of fantastic quality. Only the owners that have never owned the opposite vendors equipment seem to perpetuate such arguments.

Budget wide
Canon EFs the canon lens lineup with the 10-22 and 17-55IS is the best price performance unmatched by Nikon

Budget and Full frame Long
For the long end Canon have the better 70-200+

Full frame wide
For full frame the Nikon D3/700 14-24 and 24-70 is unmatched by canon

Low light and action
for low light action work Nikon is better

I shoot with Canon 10-22 and 17-55IS Canon 30D
