Hey all, heres your chance to boast..and give me some idea how much money people can make (If your good of course) on this site.

On a good month how many downloads would you have??
On a good month what would you earn??

Would love to get a ball park figure. Thanks very much guys this Newbie is just curious.

And Chillys...in the near future is it possible to give stats on how many times a photo has been downloaded?
Cheers

Hi tony37, welcome to mychillybin.
When you open one of the photos from the hot downloads tab you will see the Image Stats there on the right with number of downloads, views, etc.

In addition to Kathleen's point above ... thanks for your ideas Tony - we are sure you will appreciate that there are some limits to how much competitively valuable information is best to share in an open forum like this - where competitors come snooping.

One other piece of information that is available for all to see is which mychillybin images have sold most. Either overall, or for any search term. This can be found by searching with a blank search box, or with a search terms in it, and then under options choosing 'Most Downloaded'.

The best overall selling image is shown below. It has multiple ethnicities, and energy, in a very Kiwi context.

mychillybin, serving the market it does, does not aim to sell high volumes at low prices, but rather to meets the needs of graphic designers (and others doing similar work) for quality (individually moderated) NZ images at fair prices.

Cause you asked - here also is advance notice that there are also some additional performance parameters of this nature, and also % acceptance rates, that will be released to members later in February or in March.

cheers for now

Hi tony37 and welcome to M.C.B

Firstly, since your a newbie i will go easy on you.Remember etiquette, you don't ask how much someone earns, and if your good or not doesn't really apply in stock photography, the market decides that.If your here to make big dollars forget it,you can earn enough to upgrade some of your gear occasionally.Personally on a good month i would sell 4 or 5,on a bad month zero,my record is 8 in a month, some photographers sell much more but it's what the market requires and that is usually shots with people in them with signed releases then you can sell more images and your earnings can take off that way, good luck.

I'm a newcomer as well. When I followed the instructions to find the most popular picture, my search result said the picture above (3 kids at beach) had been downloaded just 18 times in 3 years. Is this accurate? Has this picture been purchased only 18 times?

Yes that is right, 18 times. mychillybin is a niche library focussed on quality reviewed and model/property released images for NZ designers - rather than on high volume international commodity images at low prices.

Photographers who supply 'integrated culture' images (like the multi race kids on the beach you mention) are targetting the highest demand and lowest supply opportujnity.

Photographers who receive payments every month typically either have a small collection of very good people and/or Maori and/or Pacific Island culture images, or a large (500 or 1,000+) collection of quality landscapes etc, or both.

all the best

Last question. What average sale price has this picture attracted? (I've just joined - I haven't sold any pictures yet so I have no idea about returns.) Thanks

Interesting... I would have binned that photo because the hands are cut off, just goes to show what is important or not for some people.

This image has been viewed 6,153 times, and downloaded only 18. Possibly by members of the same family. Clearly there is not a "high demand and low supply opportunity" for badly cropped images.

Who buys the images is information available within our system, and we can assure you that it has not been all sold to the same family. Within all the sales one customer has purchased the image twice - as happens from time to time with agencies using the same image for different clients.

If you have some mixed race, natural expression, kiwi context images in your bin with the hands cropped off, then shoot them on in.

18 sales out of 6,000 views is hardly a strong recommendation for poor cropping.

Hi NZGMW and welcome.
Do what you do best with your photography, nothing wrong with looking at other images but your portfolio is all about your images. Get what images you want your stock photography to be and don't get stuck on what other people's style of photography is, we all see photography different.
In the image of topic at the moment the image has worked, it's getting downloads.
break some photography rules yourself and see what you can come up with for a good seller. have fun and enjoy being part of the photographer team, look forward to seeing your images.
