I just had the most unfortunate experience of having all my camera kit and computer stolen, am devastated but thought perhaps through my experience I can warn others. BACK UP YOUR PHOTOS. If you are not doing this already, buy a external hard drive and back up everything. Then hide the hard drive in another location to make sure that these a..holes do not get your precious work. Thank goodness I did just that and still have my photos.

Stealing a camera is one thing, at the end of the day it's just stuff and can be replaced, but stealing your images is another much more personal offense.

That would be a gut wrenching experience Karen, sorry you happened to be someones target this day.I must admit that i don't back up files even though i have an external drive, well i do occasionally but normally in winter,is a wake up call for the rest of us.Hope you were well insured for your gear,i could lose a body but my lenses are the more valuable piece of equipment, good luck Karen and hope the police catch up with your thieves.

I have a backup external hard drive using Time Machine to backup hourly on my iMac plus I have an off site backup (kept in the car outside the house - at a friends or the bank would be even better) that I back up to at least once a month. If you have a fire or burglary you could lose your backup too.

So sorry to hear of the theft, Karen. I hope the process of claiming for your lost items goes smoothly and quickly so you'll be away and shooting again 'quick as'. I know how violated one feels when you're a victim of thieves and my heart goes out to you. GREAT to hear you have lost none of your photo records though.

Kathleen very sorry to hear of this loss, but pleased you are amongst the few who make regular and effective backups (or have the files 'in the cloud' and rely on others to do backups).

For your interest mychillybin data files are backed up multiple times each day (on a changed data basis), to 2 completly separate physical locations in New Zealand.

No guys, I'm ok. I think it was supposed to be thank you to kiwiangel [Belinda] and Canon SI, not Kathleen.
But yes, it is a good reminder to back-up, I often switch off and have'nt done it.
