Hi All
I have just discovered that words in the Image Description are not included in any Search. I had been under the assumption they would be included.
So when MyChillyBin decided that the words Mt Hobson & Mount Hobson didn't need to be in the list of Keywords (even though i had included them) - it meant that anyone wanting an image of Mount Hobson would not view my image - even though this is the Title of the Image!!
Making it all a bit pointless...
So beware! If your image is Selected for use - make sure that you check the keywords - as they may have been edited by MyChillyBin - and don't assume that even though you have given it an accurate Image description - that any of these words get included in a search.

Whew - lucky for me half of my pics don't have accurate descriptions for names at all! Lol. Yeah, I was pretty suprised to notice that, too. I wonder if MCB could alter this along with the other changes planned for the site?

There is a bit of a flaw with the Current search engine. You have to be REALLY pedantic with your Keywords

A search by someone for 'Remarkables' will not let them see any images of 'The Remarkables' - unless you have specifically entered 'Remakables' as a Keyword too.

If I have 'Coronet Peak' in my keywords - but someone only types in 'Coronet' when searching - They will not see any of my 'Coronet Peak' images

Likewise a search for 'Taranaki' will not get you any images of 'Mount Taranaki' unless it specifically has 'Taranaki' as a Keyword too.

And remember even though you may have included the other words in the Image Description - they are not included in a Search.

The good news is that the Site and Search facility is about to be Upgraded - so maybe these issues will be fixed.

Thanks for these comments - see note from chillys below - this treatment has now been changed to exclude all definite and indefinite articles from all keyword phrases of existing and new records.

Yep, had the same thing with The Beehive. I only had Beehive as a keyword. The beehive has now been added. I questioned the Chillys via email when I noticed that all my searches for The Beehive didn't show my images. Agree, we have to be pedantic!

Taking your photo is step 1,step 2 is processing your photo, step 3 is keywording your photos suitably, which we all hate, but has to be done. You have to realise one word does not cover a scene, everything in that scene should be keyworded.eg you have a mountain scene, you would have blue sky, cloud, clouds, snow, ice, white, mountain, tree, trees, lake, grass, green, leafs.yadda yadda, the more keywording the better.
Step 4 is uploading your photos with heaps of keywords, some say a maximum of 10 keywords is enough but i know there overseas outfits,so for the NZ market the more keywords you apply the better chance you have of making a sale.

Another wee peice of advice on the topic - well four actually.

Be meticulous with your spelling. It doesn't always get checked.
Don't put in a keyword that doesn't apply to the image. That's as misleading as leaving something out.
Add the location that the image was taken in eg. Matakana, Puhoi
Expand on words, use a thesaurus or even Wikipedia to give you other ways to describe things.

Thanks for all these helpful observations ... one change ... with the way the current search settings work it will be best for everyone if the definite and indefinite articles are left off all keywords.

So we will no longer use 'The Beehive', and nor will we use 'The Remarkables', and have removed the 'The' from all existing Beehive and Remarkables photo keywords. As a result all beehive images are found whether users search for 'The Beehive' or 'Beehive'.

Please let us know if you find other places where the definite or indefinite articles (i.e. the, an, a,) are included in the front of existing keyword phrases, and we will amend these keywords to remove them.
