"half dozen pics" - Queen's Birthday photo challenge
(should you choose to accept)

The weather forecast looks promising (maybe) - so why not have a go at the "half dozen pics"
Queen's Birthday photo challenge. Here is all you need to do (between now and 10 June):

Shoot, process, select, & submit 6 photos;
involving 3 specific subjects, each shot 2 ways.

Choose 3 subjects, from these 12 amazing Kiwi options ...
DIY,
money changing hands,
eating out,
housework,
yardwork,
shaving or makeup,
home food preparation or eating,
extended family, whanau, clan or tribe
inside the shed,
travelling,
intergenerational,
or even planking (safely).

Shoot (off auto) each subject in 2 ways, some ideas ... differential focus (low f stop), motion blurred, fill-in flash, backlit, silhouette, from a distance with telephoto to compress distance, closeup, with leading lines, with diagonal, subject as foreground, subject as background, ...

Process so you have the lighting histogram as you wish, and upload normally by the end of the week (i.e. by midnight Friday 10th June), including the keyword QB2011 as a keyword in each image, and then we can all search and see the results. You will receive priority upload processing too.

This is not a formal mychillybin competition, but the chilly team will find some reasons to award a couple of 'spot' prizes, for a couple of people to have a meal out.

That was not very inclusive was it! We can sure view 'In the shed' and 'Yardwork', widely to encompass factory operations to include your mill which we would love images of.

The challenge is open right through to the ends of Friday 10th June - to allow a few more options too.

Cheers

This 'non-official' challenge closes tonight Friday at midnight - will check for any email queries again about 10.30 tonight, and then post tomorrow morning all further entries received tonight.

Thanks to all - seems quite a few photographers have enjoyed the specified subject challenge!

That was a cool challenge, thanks! Much harder than it looked at first! But a great way to get me thinking more about the shots before taking them. Cheers!

One mychillybin photographer is presently affected by an internet reduced bandwith problem and only managed to get keywords to us by email by midnight yesterday. They thought their files had uploaded after 3 hours, but they have not arrived. So being reasonable people having received the keywords we will wait till the internet problem is fixed and these files are received too, before awarding a couple of 'spot prizes' - will be hard as there are quite a few great images.

In the meantime please post here about any images that you particularly like, and why. Remember you can find them all by searching for QB2011

You sure have got a job ahead of you chilly's, there are great photos there

On asking for some comments; that will be really hard as there is as you say quite a few.
As always, comments are an individual point of view, we are all very different to how we see images and that has come out in the images up-loaded, so many different perspectives and subjects, chilly's must be stoked to have these added to mychillybin catagorys. Maybe a spot prize for the first photo sold out of the QB2011 catagory.

Love to take part on some reviews, sort of like a members voting participation.
From me, as much as I would like to comment on quite a few, I'll comment on 3 that really stand out for me. AND again I stress this is an individuals choice.

A photo from Andrea Howard called "Lipgloss" Lovely and sharp only just where needed, great, everything else not important falling into soft focus with that dark background making the subject of the lips and applying gloss really stand out, and beautifully lit to show the gloss on the lips. There is nothing else in the image that distracts the eye from the subject of applying lipgloss, well done.

A photo from Richard Hayton "Scones, jam and cream, food preparation"
Love the wide angle quirky in your face perspective, a fantastic shot with perfect exposure and great colour.

Another photo from Richard Hayton "Housework"
Fantastic shot, perspective and exposure brilliant. Immediately I get the feeling of architectural though, not sure about it being for housework. Well done, fantastic shot.

There are also great images with people in, you have a bit of a hard choice chilly's.

everybody, you have all done well, Kathleen.

Aw, shucks Kathleen! Lovely stuff.

The two that stand out the most for me from other photographers are "Building tools. Spirit level, with angle degree markings" by Kathleen - nice simple shot but still a very interesting viewpoint on it. And 'Housework' by Richard Hayton - love the angle, and adore the cd/dvd shelf! I think that shelf adds a lot to the image - it's very cool.

I love the housework image. Lovely creative angle and plenty of white space for copy. Although the vacuuming is just one element rather than the central element of the image, I think it lends itself to more sales potential because of that.

I also like Pippa's low angle image of the man working on his motorbike. It's the typical kiwiness of the man 'cave' but well lit. There are many fabulous shots making it so hard to choose just a couple of favourites. The makeup ones are great too! I think everyone has given some great interpretations of the themes. Good job to all!
