Two further adjustments to the site are planned, to make it easier to use for image customers;

1. Add an options box, after the search box, on the home page.

This was not included initially on the home page because website users typically do a broad search first, and then narrow their search after. However many customers at mychillybin are repeat customers and allowing them to use the Search options from the home page will make their life easier. The search options box is small and unobtrusive, so does not add clutter.

2. Changing the Main Menu Items, and their Sequence

Good web design presents menu items in the sequence (left to right) that the main target customers are likely to want to use them. The current main menu sequence is;

What's New, Browse, Buy Credits, Submit your Photos

Image customers typically want to get on the site, search for their image, download it, and get off again as fast as possible. Most do not want to go to What's New first, nor do image libraries typically emphasise browsing. So it is proposed to change this main menu sequence to the typical pathway for image purchasers, as follows

Search Images, Buy Credits, News

This is shaping the main menu bar of the site for the convenience of image customers, which will directly benefit image customers, and indirectly benefit photographers through more image sales.

Of course this means that there would now be two visually strong 'image search' options on the home page - which can be favourable.

The Submit your Photos is not relevant to image customers, so it would be removed from this main menu bar, and photographers would need to use the Submit your Photos in the menu at the bottom of the page, or bookmark the submit your photos page to upload photos.

We welcome any queries, comments and suggestions - before this work is scheduled for implemtation.

Further changes to search functionality and search within search are scheduled to follow once we complete the needed research into those areas.

Good ideas, I can see the point to them, but what happens to the 'what's new' tab? Will we still be able to search these. I consistently watch the site to see what other photographers are producing, and more importantly what images are selling. That guides me as to what kind of images I think will do well, and therefore what images to upload.

Thanks Karen ... yes important functions these.

The new tab labelled Search Images will go to a page with Search box (with options) as well as showing latest uploads and lastest downloads (i.e. same page we get to now through Browse). It could be called Search or Browse Images I guess instead, although that is quite long.

The tab labelled News will go to the same place that What's New goes now. News seems to be a better name as this page shows neither new images nor new downloads.

Sounding good. I see 30 photos downloaded today so far, excellent, whatever your doing to improve sales keep it up.
Yes, I like to see all the new photos coming in and what gets downloaded each day so I would like to see that remain under your new changes.

It all sounds good to me!
Where do we see how many photos were downloaded for the day - I had no idea you could do that!

Hi Andie. Under the Hot Downloads, click on that tab to see what went out, you did good today.

I think the most important thing you can add - from an Image Searcher/Buyer perspective is a function used by all the best PhotoLibrary sites like Getty etc.
That is a function called 'Search Within'.
After the your first broad search for say - for instance - GRASS, which gives you 144 pages of any image that any has ever taken with grass in - you can then 'Search within' all those images for say - for instance AGRICULTURE, and then search within that for say CLOSE-UP or COW etc etc. It allows people to continually narrow and refine easily and in a way which suits them

As a Graphic Designer who talks to other Graphic designers - the single biggest stumbling block to them using your site is the lack of this simple functionality.

Thanks for that observation, we have heard this from others and it makes sense to us too - it is next on our list after this change - sounds like we should speed it up. the chillys

Great idea aldente. That sounds like an awesome feature.

Like others, I am constantly checking the new uploads and downloads; several times a day typically. It helps me keep an eye on what sort of images are finding acceptance from the MCB team as well as fuelling creativity, etc. The suibmit photos link on that bar I never use so getting rid of that doesn't worry me. I usually do that from the link in my profile.

Great to see of the continued site development - I have seen it go from strength to strength since I joined.
