Sorry if this has been answered previously on the forum (I tried to look back but couldn't spot anything) - in terms of sizing images I read that all images should be 2560 x 1920 pixels or larger.

My question is when a photo is cropped (for artistic reasons, if you see what I mean) does only one side need to exceed the dimensions specified or do both?

To give an example, assuming an image is originally 4000 x 2600 pixels but it is cropped down to 3000 x 1000 pixels is it still submittable?

Thanks

Hi Andy

Interesting question. The mychillybin site checks minimum size compliance automatically and I am not sure of the exact checking process detail. I will confer with the developer of this process and advise further in due course. You can just try loading the image in the meantime and see if it is accepted, if you wish - but it is likely to be too small.

You are probably already aware, but just to be sure (and for other readers too), in terms of artistic cropping, mychillybin being a stock image site, likes the final cropping of images to be left to its customers.

They are predominantly professional graphic artists and illustrators so they are well capable of visualising an image in a cropped form, and often with different proportions too. They often want a considerable amount of extra image available to place text over without disturbing the subject of the image, and when this space is present the phrase 'copy space' is often included as a Key Word. They also want a little surplus image available on all four edges when designing with bleed for print.

Of course in some cases a degree of cropping is still needed after taking these aspects into consideration, and that is fine.

cheers for now
