It's a pity this website does not have a social media presence. I'm sure it would boost sales considerably. I think most NZ agencies simply use international stock libraries and don't even know this one exists.

Yep, sales have stalled - Some possible reasons:

1: Competition - Photo New Zealand, where NZ Professional Photographers put their library images, has dropped their prices to match mychillybin - and started pushing Royalty Free licencing more, as they realise Rights Managed is an expensive and unpopular licencing option. Professional photographers also have access to good talent, and People Pics are what sells best!
Also, the many international Royalty Free sites now have a lot of NZ content which is really cheap.

2: Simple maths - the more photographers mychillybin accepts, and the more images get uploaded onto the site - the smaller the slice of the earnings pie for everyone.

3: Quality - feedback from some Design/Advertising peers suggests they think there are too many below average images clogging up the mychillybin site. This means searching can become a chore because there are too many pages to click through to view.

Thoughts anyone?

It will be interesting to read Chillybin's operators view on all this, and what they might be able to do to increase it's sales.

Its a bit disheartening to have 30 days to have your images assessed

It's a bit disheartening to have had no response for well over a month,to the issue of slower sales too!

you cannot blame MCB entirely for the drop off in sales. World wide trend for photo sales as more agencies arrive selling images for less and less. Photographers everywhere are complaining. The days of making reasonable money from selling photos like this are over. Yes we all probably agree that maybe MCB could have done more especially in regard to social media. but then how many of you (and me) show off our images on our own social media pages. Go onto any microstock agency site and you will find some excellent NZ images available for tiny amounts of money.

All I can suggest is you continue to add quality unique NZ images to the library, talk to any designers you come across and say how wonderful MCB is. Perhaps go through your old images and delete photos taken with your old ten year old cameras that were noisy and dirty and lacked dynamic range. Post photos regularly on your facebook and instagram pages with links back to mcb. Good luck out there.

Thank you for all your various comments and observations.

Working on a few plans for this year, which we will share in due course once they are in place.

I think it is important to note the way people search for images these days.

Many people no longer go to their favourite, specific Photolibrary.
Now they go straight into Google and search by image.
This invariably brings up the commercial sites that have the best Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).

As a test - I have typed into Google Image some very specific descriptions of some of my best selling images and none of them even appear as a Google Image Search.
So I think it is crucial that this be addressed, as it a great way for people who aren't familiar with MyChillyBin to be introduced to us and our Images.
