The Way We Sea
You may not have heard of the Dell Festival of Surfing, Art & Music – it’s in New Plymouth and we reckon it sounds like the bomb. This year to coincide with the Festival, Tony Ogle and Daryn Mcbride will be exhibiting their artworks at the New Plymouth Boardriders Club at Fitzroy Beach from October 22 - 24.
The festival also incorporates a traditional longboard surfing contest so Daryn’s taking the opportunity to release his latest Noserider model longboard. The board’s just another of Daryn’s collaborations, this time with surfboard shaper Peter White of Classic Malibu, Australia. “I had the idea to utilise my skill as an artist and Pete’s talent as a master shaper. I wanted to produce an art piece that could be taken off the wall and ridden on the nicest days. A series of functional rideable artworks, boards that feature a one-off original artwork, laminated onto the bottom of the board. “
Peter makes some of the nicest boards your ever likely to ride, and Daryn having done some time under the guidance of Peter at the CM factory, says “I knew before approaching Peter that quality, shape and finish of the boards would be second to none. We’re only producing a limited number of these rideable works of art, I received the first board of the series yesterday and it looks amazing in every way, best of all can’t wait to ride it at the festival!”
The Chilly’s will be sure to check out the surf and the art – not necessarily in that order – catch you at the gallery or on the beach this October....
